Season of Giving

SEASON OF GIVING

As we all head into the busiest season of the year filled with parties, shopping, decorating, and feasting we must also pause and give thanks.  This is the season of giving and as a small business we are blessed to be able to help directly in any way we can.  We have many repeat customers who have graciously supported our family business and we want to give back by making a donation to the charity of your choosing with each purchase.   We have selected charities which we hope you find near and dear to your hearts, we know they are meaningful to us.  You may also select the non-profit charity of your choice.  We want you at checkout to pick the charity  that is near and dear to you and we will make a donation to that charity.  Let's all work together to help others this holiday season!

Blessings to all!

Marine Toys for Tots Foundation

As abundant as this season is we all understand that for many families there is hardship.  The Toys for Tots is a non-profit program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which distributes toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas.  It started  as a Los Angeles charitable effort in 1947. Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, was inspired by his wife Diane when she tried to donate a homemade Raggedy Ann doll to a needy child but couldn't find any organization to do so. At her suggestion, he gathered a group of local Marine reservists, including Lieutenant Colonel John Hampton, who coordinated and collected some 5,000 toys for local children that year from collection bins placed outside Warner Bros. movie theaters. Their efforts were so successful that, in 1948, Toys for Tots was launched as a national campaign.  We see these bins everywhere now and as of 2016, the Toys for Tots Program and Foundation have collected and distributed more than 512 million toys.   That's a lot of smiling children if just for a day.  To learn more.  https://www.toysfortots.org

Hope for The Warriors

Hope For The Warriors is a national nonprofit organization in the United States that provides assistance to combat wounded service members, their families, and families of those killed in action. The organization focuses on those involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom and their families.  They believe in a holistic approach to well-being and understand that many factors impact a service member’s life—family, community, employment, and countless others.  The program takes a 360° approach to service, promoting whole-person wellness for each service member they support. Through  three program areas—Transition Services, Clinical Health & Wellness, and Sports & Recreation they help service members and military families on their journey to wellness and a successful transition to civilian life.  It's all about supporting our troops, in any way we can!

American Cancer Society

There is no one in the world that hasn't either been afflicted personally or knows someone past or present that has suffered with this horrific disease.  The American Cancer Society is a nationwide voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer. Established in 1913.  The Society is proud to have contributed to the work that has resulted in a 27% drop in the overall cancer death rate in the United States. That drop equates to 2.6 million fewer cancer deaths between 1991 and 2016. Progress continues and is currently estimated at 500 fewer cancer deaths each day. Breakthrough research. Free lodging near treatment. A 24/7/365 live helpline. Rides to treatment, Relay for Life programs, education programs, pre-screening, development of tests (Pap etc.).  As much progress as there is it's not enough until we eradicate this once and for all.  I pray for this in our lifetime every day.

               Make a Wish America

During this holiday season of HOPE this charity rings the bell. The Make-A-Wish is a nonprofit organization founded in the United States that creates life-changing wishes for children with a critical illness who have reached the age of 2½ and are younger than 18 at the time of referral.  When life-changing wishes are granted, a wish effect occurs. The wish allows children battling critical illnesses to build the hope and strength they need to fight harder and see the impossible become possible. Research shows wishes can give these children a higher chance of survival. And, it’s why health professionals often use a wish as part of their treatment plan, because wishes can build compliance with care and potentially give their patients a better chance of reducing  time spent in the hospital.   If granting a wish can save or improve the quality of a life, is there anything better?

          The Michael J. Fox Foundation

Parkinson's is affecting more people each year and they are getting younger and younger- Over 1,000,000 people in the US are afflicted..   Through more funding of research I am confident there will be a cure.  Founded in 2000 by Michael J. Fox (actor) -This Foundation for Parkinson's Research is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson's disease through funded research and ensuring the development of improved therapies for those living with Parkinson's today.  Parkinson’s disease (PD) occurs when brain cells that make dopamine, a chemical that coordinates movement, stop working or die. Because PD can cause tremor, slowness, stiffness, and walking and balance problems, it is called a “movement disorder.” But depression, memory problems and other non-movement symptoms also can be part of Parkinson’s. PD is a lifelong and progressive disease, which means that symptoms slowly worsen over time.  It can strike anyone without warning and as symptoms and progression vary from person to person, neither you nor your doctor can predict which symptoms you will get, when you will get them or how severe they will be.   Each patient has a unique treatment plan.  All available medications and therapies aim to ease symptoms and improve quality of life. Patients' greatest unmet need remains a disease-modifying therapy — one that stops or slows disease progression. This charity supports research to speed cures and, for those living with Parkinson's today, to develop improved treatments for motor symptoms and expanded options for non-motor symptoms.  Let's do this!
